What is LensTrails?
LensTrails is a scouting and shoot-planning app for outdoor photographers. It helps you save promising locations, remember the photograph you imagined, and decide when conditions are worth returning for.
How is LensTrails different from Google Maps or a weather app?
Google Maps remembers a place. Weather apps show conditions. LensTrails connects the location with your photos, notes, preferred shooting direction, sun path, weather, cloud cover, and potential shoot times.
How can I add a photography location?
Add a location from the map, import a geotagged photo, take a scouting photo, or share a place directly from Google Maps to LensTrails.
What can I save with each location?
You can save reference photos, notes, tags, ratings, location type, preferred month or time of day, and the direction you want to photograph.
How does LensTrails help me choose when to shoot?
LensTrails considers the location, your preferred composition, sun position, sunrise and sunset times, weather, cloud layers, and other conditions to suggest promising shooting windows.
Are the shoot suggestions guaranteed?
No forecast can guarantee great light. LensTrails organizes the available signals and explains why a particular opportunity looks promising, helping you make a better-informed decision.
Can I see the sun’s position at a location?
Yes. LensTrails shows the sun path, sunrise, sunset, golden hour, and blue hour directly on the map. You can also preview the sun’s path through the camera view.
Are my saved locations private?
Yes. Your scouting archive is stored on your device, and no LensTrails account is required. Optional iCloud sync uses your private Apple account to keep locations available across your devices.
Can I share or export my locations?
Yes. You can share a location as a map link that does not require the recipient to have LensTrails. You can also export your archive as GPX waypoints or a CSV file.
Is LensTrails free, and what devices does it support?
LensTrails is available for iPhone with a Free plan and optional Pro or Complete subscriptions. See Plans for a clear comparison. Current pricing is shown in the App Store. Internet access is required for live weather and planning data, while saved scouting information remains available on your device.
